Un goût de première fois.

J’avais réussi. Je me hâtais d’écrire à Méri pour lui annoncer que j’avais réussi. Après tant d’années en Inde, j’avais pour la première fois voyagé seule de ville en ville, mais surtout, par un plan désorganisé, j’avais dû emprunter un bus local. Enfin, trois bus locaux pour être tout à fait exacte.

Pour ceux qui connaissent un peu l’Inde, le bus local est une expérience des plus uniques. Un bus coloré souvent suranné qui a dû parcourir au moins 10 fois le tour de la terre pour être arrivé dans cet état là. Un bus souvent fatigué, abîmé, mais apparemment ne renonçant jamais à rouler. Les sièges devant dater de son année de mise en service nous transportant dans une époque qui n’était plus. Loin du confort, il nous faisait ressentir toute l’instabilité des routes indiennes. Les Indiens étant plutôt de petite morphologie, nous nous retrouvions entassés, plus que jamais à l’étroit, dans un bus bondé de locaux, pour beaucoup venant de villages et sous une température s’approchant des 40 °C. Cette expérience surprenante, enrichissante, captivante, me rendait fière. J’avais réussi, 10 ans plus tard, à vivre ce défi, surmonter ma peur, éliminer ma zone d’inconfort.

Ravie, mais exténuée, j’arrive en gare routière de Panaji. Cette petite ville de l’Inde, capitale de l’état de Goa laisse entrevoir un air de Lisbonne. L’empreinte portugaise y est encore présente dans son architecture et peut être dans sa douceur de vivre.

Mon sac sur le dos, portant bien trop de vêtements que nécessaire commence à peser lourd. Je suis épuisée. La journée ne fut pas des plus organisées. Ce matin, tandis que je me réveillais à l’aube pour un dernier matin sur Palolem, je devais quitter ma chambre à 10 h. La veille, Shubhi et Sajid se proposaient de venir me déposer à la gare routière pour mon premier bus seule. Si Shubhi n’avait pu finalement se libérer en raison d’un imprévu au travail, Sajid quant à lui honorait sa promesse afin de s’assurer que je rejoigne la bonne gare routière avec ces lourds sacs, devenus le temps d’un voyage, ma maison, ma carapace, mon tout.
Nous arrivions en gare vers 10 h 30. Au comptoir des ventes, l’agent m’informa que le bus arriverait vers 11 h. Sajid et moi utilisions ces 30 minutes restantes (qui deviendront 3 heures) pour poursuivre la conversation de la veille. Tous les trois avions été dîner dans un restaurant en bord de plage, à la belle étoile comme disait le propriétaire des lieux.
En effet, notre table était un peu à l’écart du restaurant pour permettre aux convives chanceux de regarder les étoiles en mangeant, l’air ambiant bercé par la mélodie des vagues.
Notre repas était un vrai délice. Pour ma part, j’avais choisi de prendre un masala d’aubergines (baingan). Ce plat, épicé avec une telle justesse, ravissait mes papilles. Tous les trois, dégustant les généreuses quantités proposées, en profitions pour refaire le monde. Nous échangions sur différents sujets. La passion de nos discours se ressentait dans l’intonation et dans le débit de nos paroles. Il y avait de la joie, de la colère, des rires parfois. Nous parlions de nos cultures, de nos envies de changer les choses. Le temps filait si vite. Je chérissais ces moments. Ces conversations honnêtes, sincères. Sans tabou. Sans retenue. Shubhi s’animait lorsqu’il fallait parler de la condition des femmes en Inde. Elle s’animait, forte de ses convictions, outrée et blessée, laissant s’exprimer sa frustration. Sajid quant à lui tentait une approche désespérée pour s’excuser au nom des hommes indiens qui n’ont pas su évoluer. Il expliquait, avec une bienveillance naturelle les raisons de ces inégalités sans essayer de les banaliser. Il parlait alors de culture, d’éducation, des erreurs faites par les parents, des générations passées, de l’ignorance qui était sienne quelques années auparavant, mais surtout, en vain, il essayait de convaincre Shubhi que les hommes étaient en train de changer. Cela prenait du temps certes, mais les mentalités étaient véritablement en proie au changement.
Tous deux, dans leur débat sans fin, m’invitaient à prendre parti. Ils avaient tous les deux raisons, parfois tous les deux tords. Je m’amusais de ce ping-pong verbal, heureuse de participer à ce débat, heureuse d’être témoin d’une Inde en perpétuel mouvement.
Aujourd’hui, repensant à Shubhi et Sajid, c’est le cœur un peu serré que je faisais mes premiers aurevoirs depuis mon arrivée mais comme on le dit si bien en Inde : « Chalo! » L’aventure continue. À Sangolda, Émilie m’attend.
